History
City Church Hatfield is an Elim Pentecostal Church. In 1992, David Campbell - senior pastor of City Church St Albans - felt God was telling him to plant a congregation in Hatfield.
Things started with a housegroup which met in Mike & Heather Dyce's house and then, following discussions with the leadership of the former Hatfield Evangelical Church, City Church took over their building in 1994, and the new church was born.
Although Hatfield is a town rather than a city, the name 'City Church' is taken from Matthew 5:14 - "A city set on a hill cannot be hidden". We aim to be the visible presence of God in the local community - in addition, the name is particularly appropriate for the Church because our old church building is situated in the 'Hilltop' area of South Hatfield.
Mike & Heather Dyce have led the church since January 1999, and have built on the excellent work of the previous leaders Mike Humphries, Gary Trew, and John Hopkinson. Mike Smith, along with his wife Debbie joined the Church in October 2006 and, after four great years, moved on in January 2011 to pastor the church at Castle Douglas in Scotland.
In late 2011, a new church building was bought - Gracemead House in Hatfield town centre. For a short period we are holding services at both church buildings, although we will change to hold all our services at Gracemead House during 2012.
